SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University men's golf team welcomed the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) ensemble to Creekside Golf Club on Monday for day one of the Corban Spring Invite. The teams went to work in torrential conditions early, as high winds, sleet, and rain hit the field hard throughout the day.
DAY-ONE RESULTS
With one round to go tomorrow, No. 12-ranked Lewis-Clark State College boasts a 15-stroke advantage over Oregon Tech and No. 6 British Columbia, who are tied for second with 606 strokes apiece. The 12th-ranked Warriors from Lewiston, Idaho were paced through the first 36 holes by the top three individuals on the leaderboard, with Jorgen Viken's even 144 (E) putting him at the head of the pack.
In-state rivals Bushnell and Multnomah are in a share for fourth, and College of Idaho (6th), Corban (7th) and Walla Walla (8th) round out the standings with one round to go.
For Corban, Nick Torry led the charge on Monday with a 9-over 153, putting him in a tie for 11th individually. Aaron Buechley was one of nine competitors to battle to a score of 76 (+4) or lower in the blustery first round, but his 89 (+17) in round two pushed him down to 31st overall.
Calvin McDonough and Riley White each signed 36-hole scores of 167 (+23) to deadlock at 35th heading into tomorrow, and Max McDonough rounded out the Navy and Gold's top five with scores of 86 (+14) and 84 (+12).
Competing as an individual, Troy Flanagan entered the clubhouse with a two-round stroke count of 180 (94, 86).
The squads will return to action tomorrow morning, kicking off the third and final round of the tournament at 8 a.m. via a shotgun start at Creekside Golf Club.
