T&F Records 23 Personal Best Performances at Lane CC Meet

Eugene, Ore. –The Corban University track & field teams continued to build upon their strong start to the 2023 campaign on Saturday, ramping up with a meet at Titans Stadium at Lane Community College.

RESULTS

"Often times we leave the meet with some highs and lows and today that held true," said head coach Todd Bos. "We had 23 personal record performances across 16 athletes so that signifies good growth. Yet, we are still learning to compete at a level I am hoping for. Thankfully, the athletes are engaged, and we should continue to see better marks as the season progresses."

On the men's side, the day was highlighted by rookie Evan Olson placed fifth in the javelin. His 59.08m throw was a new school record for Corban and was just 1.64m behind the first-place finisher Dominic Funk of Pacific University. Jacob Moore unleased a 17-foot PR with his 175'8" throw moving him to number six all-time in Corban's record books and was a conference qualifying mark.

Veteran Matthew Araki competed in the hammer throw tossing 149'3" good enough for fifth-place and was a conference qualifying mark.

Will Maupin took 16th out of 28 in the long jump after leaping 19'03.25" and recording a personal best performance.

In the men's 400m Caleb Schmoll (52.31) put together an 11th place effort and set a personal record. The sophomore was followed immediately by Shane Davis in 12th (52.41).

On the women's side, Jaelene Diaz-Chavez' 119'00" (11th place) throw in the hammer qualified her for the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) meet as well. Gabrielle Tata-Rodrigues (116'07") and Leah Twede (89'00") also competed in the event for the Navy and Gold.

Madi Kleiber and Diaz-Chavez took 15th and 16th in the shot put with tosses of 32'09.50" and 32'02.25". Kleiber also threw 106'09" in the discuc taking eighth and qualifying for the conference meet.

In the javelin, Twede made an impressive 119'08" mark taking fifth-place and earning a spot in the conference meet. Keelyn O'Reilly hurled a 103'02" toss, good enough for 10th place overall. O'Reilly took 22nd in the shot put with a 29'07.5" throw.

Meanwhile, Leah Nastri qualified for the CCC meet when she vaulted 8'4.25" and took sixth in the pole vault.

Hero Peters continues to perform impressively in the 2023 season, clocking a time of 12.77 seconds to place third out of 30 in a competitive 100-meter dash field and qualifying for the CCC meet.

In the women's 200m the Warriors produced three personal bests and Peters (26.61) placed fifth in the sprint. Jenna Miller (28.01, PR) and Juliana Brown (28.34) placed 13th and 14th respectively, while Kristi Hirte (28.66, PR) took 16th.

Corban's next meet will take place in Newberg, Ore. as the Warriors head north to George Fox University on March 18.
