T&F Bested by Crosstown Rival in Midweek Dual

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University men's and women's track & field teams competed in their annual dual meet against crosstown rival Willamette University on Thursday evening.

The Bearcats narrowly edged the Navy and Gold men 64-63 and beat the women by a 74-36 margin.

RESULTS

The Warrior hammer throwers competed on Wednesday evening and Matthew Araki won the event with his 127'9" toss. Corban also saw success on the women's side with sophomore Gabrielle Tata-Rodrigues using her last toss for a personal record throw 129'2" earning her second-place finish.

Freshman Carter Knox had a successful day in his inaugural outing with the track and field team. The rookie finished first in the high jump with a mark of 5'7". Will Maupin also jumped in the event and placed second (5'5"). For the women, Madelynn Straus placed third in the high jump with a new personal record of 4'6.25".

In women's shot put, Jaelene Diaz-Chavez set a personal record and took home the crown with a toss of 32'11", while Madi Kleiber's 32'2.75" toss earned her a third-place finish. The Warriors took first and second place in the men's shot thanks to junior William Cordero (40'5") and Araki (39'0.05").

Gabrielle Tata-Rodrigues continues to shine in the discus earning a first-place finish behind a throw of 113'8". Cordero placed second in the men's discuss with a 111'3" throw.

Freshman Noah Andres competed in his first collegiate track meet running in the men's 1500m. He won the event with an impressive time of 4:37.03.

The Navy and Gold had three runners participate in the women's 800m run with sophomore Anne Morud leading the way with a fifth-place finish and a time of 2:41.37. Junior Rosemary Hosie was close behind her in sixth with a time of 2:46.37 (.06 seconds off of her personal best), and the veteran was followed by sophomore Olivia McFall (2:51.38).

Shane Davis headlined the men's mid-distance runners with his first-place finish in the 800m, clocking a time of 2:01.64. Caleb Schmoll competed in the 800m for the first time and finished third in the challenging race (2:06.44).

Two juniors lead the way for Corban in the 200m with solid performances from Hero Peters (26.69 seconds, second place) and a personal record from Jenna Miller (27.82 seconds, fourth place).

Josiah del Prado led the way for the Warriors in the men's 200 placing second with a personal best time of 24.01. Two other freshmen were close behind him with another personal record from Evan Olson (24.67 seconds, fourth place) and Alek Richter (24.71 seconds, fifth place). Junior Noah Miller rounded out the four runners with a seventh-place finish (24.80).

Senior Lindsay Janzer shaved almost 40 seconds off of last years' time to set a personal record in the 5000m race and crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 22:23:43.

Juliana Brown, Kristi Hirte, Miller, and Peters placed first in the women's 4x400m with a time of 4:18.97. Meanwhile, the men's 4x400m team also performed well and earned a victory. The squad consisted of Davis, Miller, Jacob Moore, and Schmoll.

Looking ahead, the next time the entire track & field program will be in action will be on April 1 when they head north to Forest Grove for a meet at Pacific University.
