Sparkman Top Warrior Through Two Rounds at Lewis-Clark State Invite

LEWISTON, Idaho – One final Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) tournament for the 2023-24 season kicked off this morning on the western border of Idaho, where the Corban University Men's Golf team finished up their first two rounds of play to find themselves in a seventh-place team slot out of the ten programs in attendance this week with one final 18-hole day to go tomorrow in the LC State Warrior Invitational.

"Bit of a frustrating day for our men as we struggled with our putting once again," shared Warriors' head coach Charlie Marshall. "Both rounds were consistent, but we know we could have scored so much better. Brayden played the all-around best for us, while others improved second round."

The tournament hosts Lewis-Clark State College were the big winners through the first two rounds of play, utilizing their advanced course knowledge of their home greens to hold a slight one-stroke lead over No. 5-ranked University of British Columbia. LC State has three of the top four placers currently in the individual leaderboards, with all three finding red ink on their scorecards to end the opening day.

For the Warriors, sophomore Brayden Sparkman (73/76) has been the top performer through 36 holes, as he's currently in a seven-way tie for seventeenth, which is only six strokes outside the top five golfers at the moment. Senior Jackson Bragg (79/73) is just three strokes behind him at +8 after a rough start during the morning round of play, but rebounded nicely in the afternoon by shooting one-over in the second session.

Following right behind Bragg is junior Max McDonough (75/78) at +9 and sophomore Shane Jacobus (80/74) at +10, who both had opposite starts and finishes to find themselves nearly directly in the middle of the 61-golfer event. Sophomore Andy Austen (80/81) and freshman David Harvey (82/85) rounded out the Warrior representation through the dry Idaho tournament thus far.

The last day of the final CCC regular season tourney kicks off bright and early tomorrow morning for the Navy and Gold, who will look to build on their momentum and finish in the top five programs with a consistent finish at the Lewiston Golf and Country Club.
