No. 17 Warriors Dominate in Home Opener Over NCAA DII Simon Fraser

SALEM, Ore. – In their first counting home dual of the 2025-26 season, the No. 17-ranked Corban University Men's Wrestling put on a show for Warrior Nation, stacking up six pins to earn a 44-8 victory against NCAA DII Simon Fraser University by winning eight of the ten weight classes.

"Proud of our guys tonight for how they competed," explained Warriors' head coach Nolan Harris. "This is a high-stress time of the year with nagging injuries starting to make their presence known as well as the stress of finals week. But our guys did a great job tonight of focusing on putting on a show. Brayden did a great job early of setting the tone early with a fall and we had guys battle through adversity and giving up weight in order to help out the team. Jr did a good job of getting the crowd into it after erasing an early deficit to come out on top. And Blake put up a lot of points at a higher weight class. Toni did a good job of closing it out with a fall to put an exclamation mark on the night. All in all, it was a fun evening with Warrior Nation."

From the opening to final weight classes of the evening, the No. 17-ranked Warriors (2-2) dominated the DII Red Leafs (0-1) with six separate pins and two major decisions, leading to the lopsided home win on Tim Hills Court. Senior Brayden Boyd kicked off the dual with a 2:56 fall over SFU's Benjamin Sommers, with Sully Hill firing up the crowd with a 12-4 major decision in the true freshman's 133-weight class debut.

Back-to-back pins for true freshman Mason Thynes (141) and senior Blake Runion (149) in 1:34 and 5:00, respectively, were followed up with a wild back-and-forth 23-11 major decision by junior Jr Downing at 157lbs. Simon Fraser's only team points of the night were scored in the 165 and 197 weight classes via a technical fall and one-point decision.

Sophomore Armando Nicacio (174) flipped an early deficit into a 4:14 pin, with junior Isaiah Twait taking just one extra second at 184lbs to down his Red Leafs' Owen Gudmundson. Finally, Warrior Nation roared to their feet when redshirt senior Antonio Garcia toppled SFU's Tyler Harris in mere seconds, earning the initial takedown three seconds into the bout before pinning him in 32 seconds flat to conclude the Navy and Gold's commanding home result.
