NEWBERG, Ore. – The Corban University Track and Field team competed under the beautiful weather earlier today in the Rich Allen Classic, hosted by George Fox University. The Warriors demonstrated strong performances across multiple events, with ten athletes achieving conference qualifying marks.
"Our team took advantage of the nice weather and had an outstanding meet," shared Coach Todd Bos after the completion of the meet. "The team's future is bright, and we need to keep working hard, expecting big marks, and doing our best to glorify God as we compete."
Senior Gabrielle Tata-Rodrigues had an impressive day, finishing third out of 30 women in the discus throw with a distance of 36.74m and earning a second place finish out of 25 competitors in the hammer throw with 43.97m.
In the javelin throw, three Warriors showcased their talents, with senior Keelyn O'Reilly taking second place with a throw of 38.55m and getting ninth on the school's record books. Junior Madelynn Straus finished third with 35.43m and redshirt junior Anthony Salisbury threw 52.20m to also secure conference qualifying marks.
Freshman Julianna Bell earned a spot on the podium and the record books, securing third place in the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.02m. Freshman Sadie Smith joined Bell with a conference qualifying jump of 9.65m.
For the third competition in a row, senior Leah Nastri jumped 2.90m in the women's pole vault hitting the conference qualifying mark.
On the track, sophomore Kirsten Kuenzi led the Warriors, capturing first place in the women's 100m, qualifying for the CCC tournament and taking the fifth-best all-time mark with a time of 12.67 seconds. Kuenzi also met the qualifying mark in the long jump with a 5.04m, taking the eighth best jump in Corban's record book.
Freshman Aaden Ackley met a conference qualifying time with a third-place finish in the men's 110m hurdles with a mark of 16.04 seconds. Qualifying for conference and running the second-best time for Corban, junior DJ Armstead Jr. took fourth in the men's 100m with a time of 10.93 seconds.
In the women's 400m hurdles, freshman Haley Kline finished in second place with a time of 1:03.46, closely followed by redshirt sophomore Patience Haff, who finished third just fractions of a second behind with a time of 1:03.59.
In distance events, sophomore Shaelee Killorn finished fourth in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:57.20, and freshman Carrie Babcock concluded the women's 5000m with a fourth-place time of 18:36.05, rounding out a successful meet for the Warriors.
The Navy and Gold will compete again in one week in Eugene on Saturday, March 15th, at the Titan Stadium for the LCC Open.
