McDonough, Sparkman Finish Round Two Under Par, Corban Men’s Golf Climbs to Top Five at CCC Championships

PORTLAND, Ore. – The beautiful Pacific Northwest weather resulted in one of the best team rounds the Corban University Men's Golf program has had all season long, as the Warriors finished under 300 as a unit to post the third best team score of the day at the 2025 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championships and climb to fifth overall on the leaderboard while three individuals fight for top ten honors.

"Day two was certainly a bounce back!" exclaimed Corban assistant coach Evan Inglesby. "The men were awesome today headlined by Max's first career bogey-free round on his way to shooting three under par. Brayden was under par as well for us, as we gained ground going into the final day and are within reach of a top three finish. The conditions and weather were beautiful today, and we're looking forward to it again tomorrow!"

A thirteen-stroke under par performance this afternoon for the University of British Columbia (573) provides the Thunderbirds with a sixteen-stroke lead heading into the final round tomorrow morning, with Lewis-Clark State College (589) shaving a stroke off their round one performance but fighting an uphill battle with UBC. The next three teams, Southern Oregon University (602), The College of Idaho (603), and the Navy and Gold (604) are all separated by just two team strokes, meaning any of the three could cement a top three team finish with another well-rounded performance in round three.

The best bounce back round of the day was represented by senior Max McDonough (70) and his bogey-free performance alongside three birdies, as he moved up the individual leaderboard by eleven positions to sit in 12th overall heading into the final round tomorrow. Junior Brayden Sparkman (72) was under par as well for the Warriors, as he moved into a tie for 13th just one stroke behind McDonough. Meanwhile, junior Andy Austen (78) sits in a tie for 19th to represent the third Corban student-athlete nestled inside the top twenty individuals. Junior Brock Nelson (78) and sophomore David Harvey (85) rounded out the Warriors in action today in Portland, with Nelson's round of 78 coming in clutch as he moved into the team competition from the sixth bag substitution spot today to finish tied for the third best individual round on the day.

With 18 holes remaining, the Corban men's golf team will attempt to lock up a top three team finish at the CCC Championships for the first time in seven seasons, with men's tee times scheduled from 8am to 10:20am back at Glendoveer Golf Course.
