KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Despite decreasing their total team strokes by nearly a 20-stroke margin today in the final round of the Run-In at the Ranch due to improved weather and course conditions, hosted by Oregon Tech, the Corban University Women's Volleyball team remained in sixth place of the seven-team tourney with four of the six Warrior student-athletes turning in superior scorecards.
"Great rounds today by Yaone and Maddy," began Corban head coach Charlie Marshall. "As a team, they improved their overall team score by over fifteen strokes and nearly had a clean set of individual scorecard improvements across the board."
Playing on their home course, the No. 19-ranked Lady Owls (604) cruised to the team title by nearly forty strokes over The College of Idaho (641), with Southern Oregon University (645) just four strokes behind the Yotes and secured the individual medalist honors following a playoff hole to conclude the tournament this afternoon. Bushnell University (686) dropped their team scorecard by thirty strokes and moved up to fourth ahead of Simpson University (690), while the Warriors (706) and Lakers of Southwestern Oregon Community College (732) wrapped up the team scoring portion of this week's appearance for Corban women's golf.
After securing a birdie on the playoff hole, SOU's Keira Cheng nabbed medalist honors from C of I's Reece Garey, with the next five golfers to finish in third through seventh representing the top five student-athletes from OIT. Sophomores Madelyn Moore (167) and Yaone Mokgatle (168) each carded an 82 to finish the final round in fifteenth and in a tie for sixteenth, respectively.
The remainder of the Warrior standings remained exactly the same from day one to day two, with sophomore Ashlyn Thomas (180) and freshman Jaycie Moubray (191) demonstrating four and seven stroke improvements to finish in 28th and 35th. Freshman Riley Sparkman (203) rounded out the team scoring for the Navy and Gold in 40th, while freshman Taylor Wirth (207) completed her individual golfing tourney appearance in 41st.
The Corban women's golf program will next be in action this upcoming weekend, as they'll host their annual Coastal Collegiate Classic at Salishan Golf Links just south of Gleneden Beach. Day one will begin on Saturday with the tournament wrapping up on Sunday afternoon.
