"We had our struggles like much of the other teams with chipping out of deep roughs and bumping greens today," Corban head coach Charlie Marshall explained. "The ladies were happy with their overall play, but we know they can score better tomorrow. At the end of the day, I'm extremely proud of how everyone was Christ-honoring with their play."
Hosted by No. 20-ranked Lewis-Clark State College at the Lewiston Golf and Country Club, the No. 5-ranked University of British Columbia Thunderbirds (305) weren't able to jump out to their usual day one lead, as the No. 22-ranked Lady Owls of Oregon Tech (305) find themselves in a tie for first place on the team leaderboard through the opening 18 holes. The host Warriors (314) are in third, with The College of Idaho (330) and Southern Oregon University (331) rounding out the top five squads. Bushnell University (340), Walla Walla University (351), and the Navy and Gold (361) complete the conference standings through day one action.
Sophomore Ashlyn Thomas (88) topped the individual leaderboard for Corban following the first round, sitting in 28th with plenty of room to grow thanks to a 38 on the back nine today. Freshman Jaycie Moubray (90) is two strokes behind Thomas in 30th, followed by sophomores Madelyn Moore (91) and Yaone Mokgatle (92) in 32nd and 34th, respectively. Freshman Haley McDonald (106) rounded out the team scoring in 40th to conclude her first round of collegiate championship golf.
The Warrior women's golf team will be back at the Lewiston Golf and Country Club for round two of the CCC Championships, with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:30am.
