Corban Men’s Golf in Eighth Amid CCC Battle at Wine Valley Invitational

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Despite some exceptional play by the Corban University Men's Golf team today in the opening two rounds of the Wine Valley Invitational, the Warriors find themselves in eighth place of the nine-team standings after carding back-to-back rounds under 300 in a dogfight of a Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) opener.

"Opening up with a 299 on our first round is really great, but we played even better for our second round improving by six shots," explained Corban head coach Charlie Marshall earlier tonight. "Still with two great rounds, we're up against some incredible play from other schools, resulting in our current standing. Andy was on a hot streak both rounds, carding a 70 to end the day."

In a back-and-forth Monday of golf, a trio of CCC programs find themselves atop the Walla Walla University hosted tourney in southwestern Washington, as Oregon Tech (562) leads the field by just two strokes over No. 19-ranked Lewis-Clark State College and three strokes over No. 11-ranked University of British Columbia. The top Hustlin' Owl and LC Warrior, Cayson VanBekum and Sondre Andresen, respectively, are in a two-man battle for medalist honors as they both sit at -11 (133) through the first two rounds.

The top five in the team standings are rounded out by The College of Idaho (584) and Warner Pacific University (584) who are both tied for fourth, followed by Southern Oregon University (585), Walla Walla University (586), Corban men's golf (592), and finally Bushnell University (595).

The Navy and Gold were represented in the top twenty of the individual leaderboards by senior Andy Austen (145) who carded 75 and 70 round scores through today's rounds to position himself in a three-way tie for 17th. Junior Owen Heath (147) is just two strokes behind Austen in a crowded field at 23rd, while senior Brayden Sparkman (148) is in his own three-man battle at 27th. Finally, freshman Isaac Laro and junior David Harvey flipped between the fourth and fifth bags in the team scoring for the Warriors, with each of them scoring rounds of 76 in the first and second sets of 18, respectively.

Corban men's golf will compete in their third and final round at the Wine Valley Invitational tomorrow morning, looking to flip their placement in the standings with some consistent performances across the course.
