Offense Stalls Across Canadian Border as RV Thunderbirds Claim Series Against Warriors

VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Corban University Baseball team managed to plate just four runs across 15 innings of play today in southwestern Canada, as the RV University of British Columbia Thunderbirds shook off yesterday's opener loss to the Warriors with three-straight wins that included 13-3 and 9-1 decisions today as they grow their lead in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings.

"Just wasn't our day today," Corban head coach Ryan Harris explained. "We couldn't get much going offensively all day long. UBC took advantage of mistakes and stuck to their identity, controlling the pace of play today. Time for us to get back home, regroup, and get ready for next week."

Game 1 | (RV) British Columbia 13, Corban 3 (8 Innings)

The receiving-votes Thunderbirds (17-7, 11-2) replicated their game two score from yesterday's doubleheader with one additional inning needed to run-rule the Warriors (11-15, 7-7) thanks to another heavy hitting day at the plate. UBC jumped out to a 3-0 lead through three innings and never looked back, with Corban cutting the deficit to 3-1 yet unable to push across the runs needed to keep pace with British Columbia's bats.

The Navy and Gold's game three senior starting pitcher Robert Hayes Jr. was charged with six runs off seven hits and a walk in 3.1 innings to accept his fourth loss of the season. UBC starter Myles Chamberlain remained undefeated on the season behind a two-run, five-hit, and two-strikeout outing.

Redshirt sophomore JC Klee had one of his best games at the plate thus far in his Corban career, tallying three hits in four plate appearances to lead his team offensively. Five other Warriors secured a single hit in game three of the four-game set, with both senior centerfielder Chase Elliott and junior second baseman Colin McNeill each scoring a run and registering an RBI.

Five different Thunderbirds logged multi-hit performances, with centerfielder Oliver Clements and second baseman David Krahn scoring four and three runs apiece, respectively.

Game 2 | (RV) British Columbia 9, Corban 1

British Columbia kept their two-game winning ways afloat in the series finale by jumping out to a 7-0 lead before the Navy and Gold finally scored their first and only run of the game in the top of the eighth inning. The T-Birds added a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth to ice the Corban comeback bid in Vancouver.

Corban senior starting pitcher Isaac Bateman was charged with just his second loss of the year behind 4.0 innings of six runs, eight hits, and four walks despite striking out a game-high five Thunderbirds. Four relievers out of the Warrior bullpen tossed an inning apiece, with sophomore John Brabb and senior Joshua Pedronan each securing clean frames.

UBC starter Daniel Orfaly struck out four batters on his way to a winning decision, shutting out Corban across 5.0 innings with only three hits and two walks issued.

Senior first baseman Peyton Rickard led off Harris' lineup with a two-hit performance at the plate, representing the only Warrior in game four to register multiple hits. Junior pinch hitter Joaquin Velez-Fucal was responsible for the only RBI of the contest when he drove home Rickard in the top of the eighth.

Clements was just as effective in game two of today's doubleheader for UBC, as he moved to the leadoff spot and led all players with three base knocks. Catcher Josh Cote powered the T-Bird bats with four RBI.

The grueling road trip continues into next weekend for the Navy and Gold, as they'll visit No. 12-ranked Lewis-Clark State College (16-3, 8-3) on Saturday, March 21st to begin the first of two doubleheaders at 12pm.
