Junior David Anderson lowered his school-record time in the 400 meter hurdles, as he met the NAIA's provisional mark in the event Saturday at the Club Northwest Invite.

Anderson Meets NAIA "B" Mark in 400 M Hurdles

– Junior David Anderson (Salem, Ore.) became the first member of Corban's track & field team to qualify for the NAIA National Championships, as he won the 400 meter hurdles at the Club Northwest Invite Saturday in a school-record and "B" qualification standard time of 54.53.

"We had a great meet all-around," said third-year head coach Norm Berney. "Many of our athletes almost met the provisional mark for the NAIA Championship and we are only getting better each and every meet."

Twenty members of the men's and women's track & field teams either beat the previous automatic qualifying mark or met the minimum qualification standard for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships in May.

The Warriors' day began with junior Jason Hardrath (Baker, Ore.) competing in the men's 3,000 meter run, as he finished 11th overall in a time of 9:26.29. Freshman Melody Haidle (Ontario, Ore.) then stepped onto the track for the women's 5,000 meter run, as she ended 10th overall in a time of 21:22.87.

Next up for Corban were its relay teams in the 4x100 meter relay, as the women's 'A' team won their event in a time of 50.53 with the men's 'A' team finishing second in their event with a time of 44.87.

Sophomore Caleb Goins (Scio, Ore.) and freshman Taylor Adrian (Portland, Ore.) would be the first Warriors to qualify for the CCC Championships in the 1,500 meter run, as Goins finished second in a time of 3:59.98 and Adrian concluded the event in sixth place thanks to a time of 4:06.24.

In the women's 1,500 meter run, sophomore Jennifer Hague (Florence, Ore.) and freshman Lauren Cross (Missoula, Mt.) finished eighth and ninth respectively with times of 5:16.48 and 5:20.96.

The women's 100 meter hurdles produced a trio of conference automatic qualifiers that included freshman Eliya Kohl (Salem, Ore.), freshman Becca Stanton (Springfield, Ore.), and freshman Kate Tracy (Eagle, Idaho). Kohl finished ninth in a time of 17.21, while Stanton (11th – 17.53) and Tracy (12th – 17.86) met the automatic qualify time in the event.

In the men's 400 meter dash, freshman Bryce Petersen (Salem, Ore.) concluded the event in seventh place overall thanks to a time of 53.53. Petersen's time was good enough for a runner-up finish in Heat #1 behind unattached runner Tyler Arementa's 52.30.

The women's 400 meter dash had one Corban runner with freshman Emilee Grubb (Bozeman, Mt.) finishing fourth overall thanks to a time of 1:03.70.

In the men's 100 meter dash, sophomore Cory Shields (Jefferson, Ore.) and freshman Joseph Summers (Canby, Ore.) finished 11th and 24th respectively. Shields turned in a time of 11.79 in Heat #3, while Summers posted a time of 12.58 in Heat #3.

Junior Bianca Davis (Ontario, Ore.) continued to lower her automatic conference championship qualifying time in the 100 meter dash, as she finished seventh overall thanks to a time of 13.03. Meanwhile, Stanton and fellow freshman Kelsey Childers (Milton-Freewater, Ore.) concluded the event in ninth and 14th place respectively with times of 13.41 and 14.62.

In the women's 800 meter run, sophomore Courtney Welling (Springfield, Ore.) bettered her CCC automatic qualifying time with a runner-up finish that showed a time of 2:19.65.

After Anderson's school-record performance in the men's 400 meter hurdles, Tracy stepped into the blocks for the women's 400 meter hurdles and posted a conference automatic qualifying time thanks to an eighth place finish that resulted in a time of 1:12.91.

The men's 200 meter dash produced another conference automatic qualifier in junior Beau St. Peter (Salem, Ore.), as he finished eighth in a time of 23.56. Four other Warriors – Shields, freshman Seth James (Snyder, Colo.), Summers, and freshman Jefferson Forrest (Springfield, Ore.) – competed in the event posting times of 24.05, 24.08, 26.01, and 26.35 respectively to finish 14th, 15th, 24th, and 26th overall.

In the women's 200 meter dash, Davis ended seventh overall in a time of 27.45 to go along with sophomore Jocelynn Smith's (Yakima, Wash.) 10th place showing in a time of 27.62.

The men's 5K involved freshman David Brown (Meridian, Idaho) and freshman John Trimble (Vancouver, Wash.), as Brown finished 11th in a time of 15:58.62 compared to Trimble's 21st place showing with a time of 17:02.24.

In the 4x400 meter relays, the men's 'B' team and the women's 'A' team won their respective events in times of 3:28.15 and 4:08.87. Meanwhile, the men's 'A' team finished fourth with a time of 3:37.85 versus the women's 'B' team finishing sixth with a time of 4:28.02.

The field events began with freshman Joash Panglinan (Honolulu, Hawaii) qualifying for the conference championships in the long jump thanks to a leap of 5.92 meters, which placed second overall.

In the women's long jump, both Kohl and Childers met the automatic conference qualifying mark with leaps of 4.83 meters and 4.24 meters respectively to finish fourth and seventh overall.

Freshman Taylor Wilkins (Milwaukie, Ore.), who was competing in his first meet for the Warriors, met the conference automatic qualifying mark in the men's javelin with a throw of 46.92 meters to finish seventh overall. Petersen and Forrest also competed in the event, as Petersen met the CCC automatic qualifying mark with a throw of 43.13 meters to finish 10th overall. Forrest concluded the event in 13th place with a throw of 37.36 meters.

In the women's javelin, freshman Jenny Harman (Salem, Ore.) raised her automatic qualifying mark for the conference championships with a throw of 34.00 meters to finish as the runner-up in the event. Meanwhile, freshman Kyra Brauer (Conrad, Mt.) finished fifth overall with a throw of 26.22 meters.

Wilkins would return to the track in the men's shot put finishing 12th overall with a throw of 10.18 meters.

The women's shot put produced the second highest number of individuals that qualified for the conference championships, as freshman Christy Mosier (Bend, Ore.), freshman Rian Miller (Plummer, Idaho), and freshman Jessica Rouse (Turner, Ore.) all raised their automatic qualifying marks. Mosier won the event with a throw of 12.19 meters, while Miller (10.91 meters) finished third and Rouse (10.34 meters) ended in fifth place.

In his third event of the day, Wilkins finished 14th in the men's discus with a throw of 30.34 meters.

The women's discus had four Warriors qualify for the conference championship meet, as Mosier, Rouse, Miller, and Harman all met the minimum standard. Mosier finished fifth with a throw of 34.89 meters followed by Rouse (6th – 34.05 meters), Miller (8th – 31.20 meters), and Harman (9th – 29.40 meters).

Concluding the day for the Warriors were Brauer in the women's high jump and Kohl in the women's triple jump. Brauer would finish third with a leap 1.30 meters, while Kohl met the minimum mark for the conference championships with a jump of 10.38 meters to finish second in the event.

Corban's track & field teams will return to the oval on Friday & Saturday, April 3rd & 4th, at the Willamette Invitational at McCullough Stadium in Salem.
