Freshman Jessica Rouse qualified for the conference championship meet in two events Saturday, as Corban's men's and women's track & field teams opened their respective 2010 seasons at the Willamette Opener.

12 Warriors Meet Qualifying Marks at Opener

SALEM, Ore.
– Twelve different Warriors met the qualifying standards for the 2010 Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships, as Corban's men's and women's track & field teams competed at the season-opening Willamette Opener Saturday at McCullough Stadium.

Four different female competitors along with one relay team turned in second place showings, while junior David Anderson (Salem, Ore.) had the best finish on the men's side with a runner-up showing in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 56.57 seconds to qualify for the conference championship meet.

On the women's side, freshman Jacquelyn Taylor (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) finished second in the 400 meter dash thanks to a time of 1:00.87 to meet qualifying standards for the conference championships. Sophomore Courtney Welling (Springfield, Ore.), sophomore Jocelynn Smith (Yakima, Wash.) and freshman Christy Mosier (Bend, Ore.) all finished second in their respective events to qualify for the conference championships in May.

To open the day, Corban's competitors would compete in three throwing events – shot put, discus, and javelin – with five athletes finishing in the Top 10 respectively in each event.

Mosier would start things off with her runner-up finish in the shot put thanks to a throw of 11.81 meters (38-09 feet) before fellow freshman Jessica Rouse (Turner, Ore.) and Rian Miller (Plummer, Idaho) finished 5th and 6th respectively. Both competitors would meet the conference championship qualifying standards, as Rouse registered a throw of 10.60 meters (34-95 feet) and Miller turned in a throw of 10.46 meters (34-04 feet).

Rouse would then move to the discus where she finished fourth with a throw of 33.15 meters (108-09 feet) to qualify for the conference championships in May. Freshman Jenny Harman (Salem, Ore.) would finish seventh with a throw of 32.11 meters (105-04 feet) en route to joining Rouse at the CCC Championship Meet. Miller rounded out the Warriors' discus throwers with an 11th place showing thanks to a toss of 28.37 meters (93-01 feet).

Following her championship qualifying throw in the discus, Harman moved to the javelin and finished seventh with a throw of 33.87 meters (111-01 feet) to qualify for the conference championships in the event. Freshman Kyra Brauer (Conrad, Mt.) would conclude the Warriors' thrower with a 10th place finish in the javelin with a toss of 26.02 meters (85-04 feet).

In the running events, freshman Eliya Kohl (Salem, Ore.) turned in an eighth place showing in the 100 meter dash thanks to an automatic qualifying time of 13.46 before finishing 16th in the 200 meter dash in a time of 28.14. Fellow freshman Kelsey Childers (Milton-Freewater, Ore.) ended 14th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.62 before turning in a time of 30.21 in the 200 meter dash to finish 18th overall. Freshman Emilee Grubb (Bozeman, Mt.) was 17th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.49.

In the 400 meter dash, Taylor's runner-up showing was followed by a 7th place showing by freshman Kate Tracy (Eagle, Idaho) in a time of 1:04.83. The Warriors' next race featured Welling and junior Bianca Davis (Ontario, Ore.), who finished fourth in a time of 2:30.43 in the 800 meter run.

Sophomore Amy Renfro (Albany, Ore.) finished 7th in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:20.58 before freshman Lauren Cross (Missoula, Mt.) ended 8th with a time of 5:26.01. In the Warriors' longest race of the day, freshman Melody Haidle (Ontario, Ore.) finished 15th in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 23:41.31.

Smith's runner-up showing in the 400 meter hurdles was followed by sophomore Jennifer Hague's fourth place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 12:36.73 to automatically qualify for the conference championship meet.

In the final races of the day for the Warriors, Corban's 'A' team would finish second in a time of 4:06.97 in the 4x400 meter relay before its 'B' team turned in a fourth place showing with a time of 4:32.57.

On the men's side, freshman Joash Panglinan (Honolulu, Hawaii) would finish 12th in the 100 meter dash thanks to a time of 11.82 seconds. Two Warriors would take part in the 200 meter dash, as sophomore Cory Shields (Jefferson, Ore.) and freshman Noah Cunningham (Grants Pass, Ore.) turned in an 18th and 23rd place showing respectively in times of 23.93 and 24.84 seconds.

In the 400 meter dash, junior Beau St. Peter (Salem, Ore.) would finish ninth overall in a time of 52.61 second in the opening heat. Two heats later, freshman Joseph Summers (Canby, Ore.) finished 19th overall with a time of 56.48 seconds.

The 800 meter run would feature a pair of Warrior freshman – Seth James (Snyder, Colo.) and Jefferson Forrest (Springfield, Ore.) – that finished 10th and 15th respectively in times of 2:04.12 and 2:15.80.

Sophomore Caleb Goins (Scio, Ore.) would be one of three Warrior men to qualify for the conference championship meet with a fifth place showing with a time of 4:03.02 in the 1,500 meter run. Freshman Jacob Bowdoin (Grants Pass, Ore.) and Taylor Adrian (Portland, Ore.) would finish 11th and 14th respectively with times of 4:09.18 and 4:13.55.

Senior Jeffrey Schloemer (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) would finished fourth in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:16.05 before freshman David Brown (Meridian, Idaho) and sophomore Kevin Coriano (Anchorage, Alaska) concluded the race in eighth and 10th place respectively,. Brown would post a 5K time of 16:30.87 before Coriano turned in a time of 18:01.05.

Junior Kym Hunt (Scio, Ore.) would round out the Warriors' automatic qualifiers for the conference championship meet with a sixth place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 10:11.75.

In the relay events, Corban's 'A' team would finish second in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:28.26. Two other Warrior teams would enter the event, as Corban's 'B' team finished fourth in a time of 3:36.84 before Corban's 'C' squad concluded seventh with a time of 3:46.99.

Corban will return to the track on Thursday, March 18th, in the opening day of the Charles Bowles Classic beginning at 4:00 p.m. at McCullough Stadium in Salem.
