BOX SCORE
SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore
Audrey Sullivan (Puyallup, Wash.) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season, but it was not enough as Corban's women's soccer team dropped a heart-breaker to the visiting Raiders of Southern Oregon, 2-1, Saturday at Warrior Field.
Each team would control the offensive flow for approximately 45 minutes with Southern Oregon netting a goal in each half, while Corban scored its lone goal just over 10 minutes into the final period.
In the 16th minute, SOU's Denise Powell would net her second goal of the season via a takeaway from the Warriors' defense before depositing a shot into the lower right corner for the opening goal and a 1-0 Raider lead.
Southern Oregon would have two other golden scoring opportunities with each shot hitting the post before being cleared away by Corban's defense en route to keeping the host Warriors within a single goal heading into halftime.
At the 55:36 mark, Sullivan would receive a quick combo pass from junior
Emily Tsugawa (Gladstone, Ore.) and freshman
Kaitlyn Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) before finding herself one-on-one with Southern Oregon's keeper. The fleet-footed forward would waste no time in putting home her sixth goal of the season underneath a diving Raider net-minder to tie the score at 1-all.
Corban would get another scoring chance in the 75th minute when senior
Rachel Cole (San Ramon, Calif.) took a shot that hit the cross bar before finding the feet of sophomore
Emily Boudreau (Emerald Hills, Calif.), who sent a shot sailing high above SOU's net.
Just over one minute later, Southern Oregon would put home the game-winner when Sydney Paulsen and Danielle Stave teamed together on a crossing pass along the end line at the 75:19 mark. Stave would begin the scoring play by dribbling down the far sideline before sending a perfectly placed crossing pass onto the awaiting foot of Paulsen, who blasted a shot past a diving Warrior keeper for her first goal of the season.
Corban could only muster a single shot over the final 24-plus minutes, as Southern Oregon earned only its fourth victory over the Warriors since 2000.
Mendenhall would play the entire game between the pipes for Corban registering a game-high tying three saves, while the Warriors' defense tallied a single save in the early moments to keep the slate clean. Southern Oregon's Jessica Kuehlwein recorded a game-high tying three saves en route to earning the victory.
Offensively, Southern Oregon controlled the game on paper collecting one more shot than Corban (10-to-9) that included a 6-to-4 advantage in shots on goal.
With today's result, Corban falls to 6-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Southern Oregon evens its overall record at 5-5-1 that includes a 2-1-0 mark in league games. The Warriors will return to the field on Monday, October 10th, against the Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Warrior Field in Salem.
