Warriors Conclude Red Lion Challenge With Victory

BOX SCORE

SPOKANE, Wash. – Four different Warriors scored in the next-to-last game of the 2012 Red Lion Cascade/Frontier Challenge, as Corban's women's soccer team defeated Great Falls, 4-2, Saturday at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex.

With today's result, Corban improves to 4-2-0 overall and Great Falls falls to 2-3-0 on its season.

Corban would control the offensive flow throughout the game, as the Warriors tallied 18 more shots (22-to-4) than Great Falls that included a 10-to-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Warriors would own a 13-to-1 advantage in total shots in the first half before registering six more shots (9-to-3) over the final 45 minutes of play.

The Warriors would waste little time in earning the lead, as freshman Terrika Weaver teamed with senior Emily Tsugawa a mere 22 seconds into the game for the contest's opening goal. Tsugawa would begin the play with a through ball behind Great Falls' defense finding Weaver all alone, as the first-year Warrior beat the Argos' keeper with a shot into the lower right corner for the 1-0 lead.

Just over seven minutes later, Corban would strike again when freshman Katelyn Weaver got behind Great Falls' defense and received a pass from Weaver before unloading a shot into the back of the net for a two-goal lead at the 7:32 mark.

Great Falls would cut Corban's lead in half in the 27th minute when Mayra Castillo curled a corner kick into the upper right corner over the entire Warrior defense to bring the Argos within a single goal (2-1) at the 26:13 mark.

Ten minutes before halftime, Corban would be awarded a penalty kick when Tsugawa was pulled down in the box at the 36:52 mark. Tsugawa would put the Warriors up by two goals (3-1) when she converted her PK into the upper right corner of the goal.

In the 70th minute, Great Falls would get back within a single goal (3-2) when Kayelyn Swart converted on UGF's lone penalty kick of the game beating Corban's goalkeeper to her right.

In the final minute, Corban would add an insurance goal with junior Audrey Sullivan teamed with fellow junior Tera McDonough for her team-leading seventh goal of the year. McDonough would begin the scoring play by sending a through ball behind Great Falls' defense to find Sullivan wide open, as she flicked a shot up and over UGF's net-minder for the final tally of 4-2.

Corban goalkeeping duo of junior Alexis Beattie and sophomore Kaitlyn Mendenhall would combined to allow both goals without either net-minder registering a save. Beattie would stand between the pipes for the opening 26-plus minutes before giving way to Mendenhall for the final 63-plus minutes.

Great Falls goalkeeper Jocelyn Morris would record a game-high six saves despite allowing all four Warrior goals.

Corban will return to action on Tuesday, September 11th, against NCAA Division II member Saint Martin's beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Lacey, Washington.
