BOX SCORE
ASHLAND, Ore. – A pair of goals by senior
Audrey Sullivan were not enough Saturday, as Corban's women's soccer team saw Southern Oregon score four second half goals en route to picking up a victory, 5-3, in Cascade Collegiate Conference play on University Soccer Field.
In the opening 30 minutes, Corban (5-5-1, 1-1-0 CCC) jumped out to a two-goal lead behind scores by Sullivan and fellow senior
Tera McDonough. The Warriors' first goal came in the 25th minute when McDonough and Sullivan teamed up from 20 yards out before the duo flip-flopped roles less than three minutes later on a break away that put Corban ahead 2-0.
Southern Oregon (5-2-3, 1-0-1 CCC) would cut its deficit in half near the end of the first half, as the Raiders got a goal from Alyssa Bricker on a penalty kick at the 43:36 mark to make the score 2-1 in favor of the visiting team at halftime.
The opening 45 minutes was a pretty even battle, as both teams registered six shots with Corban putting four on-frame.
SOU would knot the game at two-all in the 52nd minute when Jacquie Galvez scored an unassisted goal at the 51:36 mark.
A little over 19 minutes later, Sullivan would net her second goal of the game in the 72nd minute to put Corban ahead (3-2) off McDonough's second assist of the game. McDonough would begin the scoring play with a pass behind Southern Oregon's defense that Sullivan collected and proceeded to take advantage of the breakaway to score her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
That would be the last time that Corban would find the back of the net, as Southern Oregon scored three unanswered goals within a five-minute period. The Raiders would begin the scoring in the 75th minute when Paige Kilpatrick scored an unassisted goal from straight away that tie the game at 3-3.
Just over a minute later, Megan McArthur teamed with Laura Aldana for the eventual game-winner, as Aldana passed to McArthur in front of the goal and she unleashed a shot from 25 yards out into the back of the net to give the host Raiders a one-goal lead (4-3).
At the 78:57 mark, Aldana would cap the game's scoring with an unassisted goal that came off a deflected shot by Seren DeChristofaro. DeChristofaro's initial shot would deflect off a Corban defender right to Aldana, who rifled a shot past the Warriors' goalkeeper and into the back of the net for the final tally of 5-3 in favor of the home team.
Junior goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Mendenhall played all 90 minutes between the pipes for Corban, as she registered a game-high seven saves. At the other end of the field, Southern Oregon's Kylie Moltzen tallied three saves en route to picking up the win for the Raiders.
Overall, Southern Oregon would register eight more shots (17-to-9) than Corban that included an 11-to-3 advantage in the second half. The host Raiders also earned six more corner kicks (9-to-3) than the visiting Warriors that included eight unanswered in the second half, as Corban was whistled for eight fouls versus Southern Oregon's six.
Corban will return to the pitch on Thursday, October 10th, against the Geoducks of Evergreen beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Warrior Field in Salem.
