LA MIRADA, Calif. – In its first of three games in Southern California over the next five days, Corban's women's soccer team fell to Golden State Athletic Conference member and nationally-ranked Biola, 4-0, Thursday evening at Al Barbour Field.
With tonight's result, Corban falls to 2-1-1 on the season and Biola improves to 2-2-0 this year.
Senior goalkeeper Alexis Beattie, who was making a return home and played in front of many family and friends, registered a game-high nine saves despite allowing all four goals on 28 shots. As a team, Corban could muster only eight shots with sophomore Ashley Beykovsky leading the way with a pair of shots with both being on-target.
Biola would get on the board in the 28th minute when Miranda Stanback took a pass from Chrissy King and tapped home the eventual game-winning goal from six yards out. King would begin the play with a pass from the right side along the end line, as the ball eluded a pair of Corban defenders before landing at Stanback's foot where she sent her shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead for the home team at the 27:22 mark.
Just over ten minutes later, Biola would score its second goal of the night when Amanda Otto received a corner kick and deflected her shot off a Warrior defender past Beattie and into the back of the net for a 2-0 Eagle lead at the 37:42 mark.
Four minutes later, King would get into the scoring act for Biola when she teamed with McKenna Marmelstein for her second goal of the season. The scoring play would begin when Marmelstein executed a throw-in to a wide open King, who took the ball and sent a 20-yard shot into the back of the net for a 3-0 halftime lead for the host Eagles.
Just over ten minutes into the second half, Biola would add the fourth and final goal of the game when Jessie Burns teamed with Amanda Lillicrop at the 55:36 mark. The final scoring play of the night would begin with Lillicrop sending a pass down the right side to an awaiting Burns, who struck a goal-scoring shot from seven yards out for the final tally of 4-0 in favor of Biola.
Biola's Briana Williams recorded the shutout for Biola, as she registered four saves in between the pipes for the Eagles.
Overall, Biola recorded 20 more shots (28-to-8) than Corban that included a 13-to-4 advantage in shots on goal. The host Eagles would also control the corner kicks, as Biola earned four more (5-to-1) than the visiting Warriors.
Corban will return to action on Saturday, September 7th, against The Master's College beginning at 11:00 a.m. in Santa Clarita, California.
