Warrior Women’s Soccer Shutout by Warner Pacific, 1-0

BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University women's soccer team opened up its 2014 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) campaign on Thursday evening, and in a tough contest, the Warriors came up short against the Warner Pacific College Knights, 1-0.  For Corban, it was the first defeat in its last 10 matches vs. the Knights.

The first half saw Warner Pacific rack up eight shots to just one for Corban, and the offensive dividends came through for the Knights in the 28th minute of play when Crystal Foster scored a goal off of a pass from Carley Turner.

The score remained 1-0 at the halftime break, with Warner Pacific out-shooting the Warriors, 8-1, and notching three corner-kicks to none for Corban.

In the second half, the Warriors tried to flip the script and press forward in search of the tying goal.  During the final 45 minutes, Corban outshot Warner Pacific, 7-4, and notched a pair of corner kicks, but the Warriors could not find the breakthrough, ultimately resulting in the tough one-goal loss.

Junior midfielder Randi Donahue (Bellingham, Wash.) led the way offensively for the Navy and Gold with three shots, while freshman midfielder Alanna Robinson (Sagle, Idaho) notched two shots, both of which went on frame.

The Warriors recorded six shots on goal on the night, including five in the second stanza, but the Warner Pacific goalkeeper, Allie Holterman, was up to the challenge, making six saves.

For Corban, freshman goalkeeper Sheyenne Brusven (Silverton, Ore.) played the full 90 minutes, tallying four saves on the evening.

"Warner came ready to play today," stated head coach Marty Ziesemer.  "They were able to disrupt us the entire first half.  The second half we were more aggressive and generated some good opportunities, but unfortunately things just didn't go our way."

Warner Pacific (4-5-1, 1-0-0 CCC) outshot Corban on the night, 12-8, and registered a 5-2 corner-kicks advantage.

The Warriors (5-4-1, 0-1-0 CCC) return to the pitch on Saturday evening when they travel back to Portland for a match against top-ranked Concordia University.  Kickoff against the Cavaliers is scheduled for 7 p.m.
