SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, is finally here, and the No. 8-seeded Corban University women's soccer team is primed and ready to make a postseason run.
Tournament Central
Entering the tournament as the underdog, the Warriors will look to play heartbreaker against top-seeded Oregon Tech in the CCC Quarterfinals tonight, with kick-off for the match slated for 5 p.m. at the Willamalane Complex.
The No. 24-ranked Lady Owls (13-2-3, 10-0-2 CCC) are coming off the 2019 CCC Regular-Season Championship, led by Amanda Seward (12 goals) and Maddie Miller (10 goals).
The two teams met relatively recently (October 19) in a closely-contested battle at the CFC Soccer Complex. Oregon Tech earned a 1-0 victory in the low-scoring affair, though the two teams ended the afternoon with equal shot counts (14-14).
The Warriors will look to avenge that loss tonight, aiming to deal the Owls their first defeat since August 30.
Corban possesses more than its own fair share of weapons, led offensively by its two leading goal scorers, Klarissa Barajas (six goals, two assists) and CCC All-Conference Honorable-Mention Chanel Garcia (six goals, one assist).
Annouscka Kordom (five goals, two assists) is coming off her third-straight year with an All-Conference award, and figures to be a crucial part of the Warriors' success in the postseason.
Warrior fans will also want to keep an eye on All-Conference Honorable-Mention Hannah Shore, who is as skilled a scorer as anyone in the conference. The Ogden, Utah native has found the back of the net five times (one assist) entering tonight's game.
In goal, Elizabeth Brock will anchor the Warrior defense, registering a 2.03 goals-against-average in 2019. The Corban back line—headlined by Second-Team All-Conference award-winner Riley Smetzler (one goal, one assist) and Hannah Hersh (two goals)—will be tasked with shutting down an Oregon Tech offense that averages 1.94 goals-per-game, third most in the CCC.
The winner of the conference tournament receives the CCC's second automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament, which will begin on November 22-23. Should Oregon Tech claim the CCC Tournament title, the bid would go to the tournament runner-up.
