COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – The (RV) Corban University men's wrestling team continued its busy weekend with duals against North Idaho College and Simon Fraser University on Saturday. The Warriors fell to the Cardinals by a 32-15 margin, then dropping the dual with Simon Fraser by a 35-15 final score.
"Anytime you wrestle tough teams it gives you a clear picture of where you need to improve," said head coach Keegan Davis. "The guys battled hard today but we came up short in a lot of matches due to minor mistakes. I'm excited to see this young team continue to develop and get better with every competition."
North Idaho College serves as a perennial powerhouse among the junior college ranks, while Simon Fraser competes at the NCAA Division II level.
A trio of Warriors earned victories in the day's first dual against No. 11-ranked North Idaho. Highlight by Cooper McCullough (165 pounds), who triumphed by way of technical fall, and No. 7-ranked Levi Perry, who pinned his opponent.
Falemalama Van Weggen battled valiantly in his matchup against the Cardinals' Hunter Gregerson, but was unable to upend the top-ranked wrestler at 197 pounds in the entire National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Simon Fraser proved equally difficult, with Perry providing the Warriors' only non-forfeit victory. Perry downed his foe by an 8-6 decision, remaining undefeated on the 2019 season.
The Warriors (1-4) continue to test themselves against top opponents from a variety of collegiate levels, and that trend will continue on Sunday as the squad wraps up its three-event week with the Spokane Tournament.
