SALEM, Ore. – In less than a month, the Corban University women's soccer team will officially begin its pursuit of a Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) title. Aside from its strong core of returners, the Navy and Gold will also feature an impressive ensemble of newcomers, with first-year head coach Derek Faulkner announcing the first half of the 2019 recruiting class on Wednesday afternoon.
Moe Sato – 5'3" – Midfielder – Maebashi Ikuei/Lane CC – Tokyo, Japan
Sato, originally from Tokyo, Japan, makes her way to Salem after a year of competition at Lane Community College. Speedy and nimble in the midfield, Sato was a part of the squad that finished eighth in the Japanese women's high school national championships. While a member of the Titans, she accrued a trio of assists in 2018.
Sato intends to major in kinesiology while attending Corban.
Angelina Prado – 5'2" – Midfielder – Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning – Grass Valley, Calif.
Prado joins the Warriors after attending Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning. The Grass Valley, Calif. native competed on the pitch for the 49er United club team, where she helped spearhead the squad to league and division championships.
Prado is planning to study elementary education while in Salem.
Jossie Lauderback – 5'2" – Forward/Midfielder – Reynolds HS/Tacoma CC – Wood Village, Ore.
Lauderback brings a strong résumé—from both her time in the high school and junior college ranks—to the Navy and Gold. She was a team captain and two-time All-Conference Honorable Mention in high school, going on to compete for two seasons at Tacoma Community College. In addition, she has played for both the Oly-Pen Force and Washington Premier FC club teams, both members of the Northwest Premier League.
Lauderback is set to major in kinesiology while attending the university.
Madison Bertrand – 5'3" – Defender – King's Way Christian HS – Vancouver, Wash.
Coming to Corban from Vancouver, Wash., Bertrand brings athleticism to the Navy and Gold back line. A multi-sport standout at King's Way Christian High School, she was a part of four-consecutive district championships, three-straight league championships, and collected three First-Team All-League plaudits as an individual.
While at Corban, Bertrand is planning to study elementary education.
Abbygail Furrow – 5'8" – Defender – Middleton HS – Middleton, Idaho
Furrow, originally hailing from Middleton, Idaho, spent four years at Middleton High School before making the transition to the collegiate level. No stranger to big stages, Furrow helped lead the squad to a pair of third-place finishes in the Idaho State Tournament, while also landing on the All-League and All-State teams as an individual. At the club level, she represented both the Boise Timbers and Boise Nationals on the pitch.
Furrow intends to study biomedical sciences during her time in Salem.
Emma Rosner – 5'5" – Midfielder – Fairfield HS/Indian Hills CC – Tonowanda, N.Y.
Rosner transfers to the Navy and Gold from Indian Hills Community College in Iowa, hoping her experience in the junior college ranks helps her make an immediate impact in the Warrior midfield. In 2018, Rosner started in all 17 games for her squad, netting an astounding 17 goals and 17 assists on the year. In high school, she was named Player of the Year for her conference, earning further accolades—including All-Region honors in both soccer and track & field—during her two-year stint at Indian Hills.
Rosner plans to major in kinesiology while attending the university.
Mikaela Symons – 5'4" – Midfielder – McMinnville HS/Chemeketa CC – McMinnville, Ore.
Hailing from nearby McMinnville, Ore., Symons spent a year at Salem's Chemeketa Community College prior to joining the Warrior roster in 2019. A standout student-athlete in multiple facets, Symons served as the team captain for McMinnville High School's squad, while also accruing academic honors for her performance in the classroom at Chemeketa. Exceptional on the pitch as well, Symons was named an All-Conference Honorable Mention during her high school career.
Symons intends to study psychology at Corban.
Grace Weber – 5'7" – Defender – St. Mary's School – Medford, Ore.
Weber hopes to bolster the Warrior back line, possessing an impressive list of accomplishments from her time at St. Mary's School. A four-year conference champion in high school, Weber also collected a pair of All-League Honorable Mention accolades, a First-Team All-Conference award, Second-Team All-State recognition, Defensive MVP plaudits, and a trio of Scholar-Athlete awards.
During her time in Salem, Weber plans to major in psychology.
Olivia McMurphy – 5'5" – Midfielder – Bonneville Online HS – Idaho Falls, Idaho
Coming to Salem from Idaho Falls, Idaho, McMurphy brings versatility to the Corban midfield. A two-time Second-Team All-Conference honoree in high school, she participated in a number of big matches—both at the high school and club level—prior to joining the Navy and Gold. A member of the CGA Elite team in 2018-19, McMurphy netted four goals and four assists in the Idaho State Cup, going on to compete at the esteemed 2019 Far West Regionals.
McMurphy is set to study kinesiology while attending the university.
The group makes up just half of one of the most exciting recruiting classes in Corban women's soccer history, with the latter portion of the squad's 2019 signees set to be announced later in the week.
