Season Preview – The Future is Bright for Warrior Women’s Golf

SALEM, Ore. – Few Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) women's golf teams are as exciting as the Corban University Warriors, who boast a deep and talented young core. The squad is set to begin its pursuit of a conference title in 2020-21, kicking off the season at the Multnomah Invite on Monday.

Picked to finish third in the CCC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Warriors are more than capable of contending with the conference's best. With British Columbia—the 2019 NAIA National Champion—abstaining from CCC play in 2020-21 due to logistical challenges related to COVID-19, the conference's top spot is up for grabs.

The CCC champion will be determined by a quartet of conference events in the spring, starting with the Oregon Tech Spring Invite on March 8-9 and concluding with the CCC Championships themselves on April 26-27.

Next week's Multnomah Invite, and the Bushnell Fall Invite (November 9) just a week later, will serve as important tune-ups for the action-packed spring regiment.

Hampered by injuries, a pair of Warriors will be sidelined for the fall portion of the schedule in order to make a full recovery for the spring slate. Standout Kelly Dunn and rookie Abby Ostrander are each projected to make their season debuts in 2021.

Dunn will be a key piece of Corban's top five, coming off an incredible inaugural season with the Navy and Gold in 2019-20. The Midlothian, Tex. native led the Navy and Gold with three top-five finishes in her rookie campaign, including medalist honors at the Linfield Fall Invite, all while averaging just 82 strokes per round.

Another cornerstone of Corban's success will be Delainey Patterson, who registered the ninth-lowest scoring average in program history in 2019-20 (82.5). As integral as Patterson has been in the past two seasons, it's hard to believe she is entering just her third year as a member of the program.

Haley May is the other third-year member of the team, and she once again figures to play a significant role for the squad in 2020-21.

In addition to the aforementioned trio, the Warriors will feature a promising group of newcomers in 2020-21, with Ostrander, Kristin Senatra, and Haley Elsasser all looking to make an impact on the course in their first seasons with the Navy and Gold.
