SALEM, Ore. – With a majority of their starting dual lineup harboring late season injuries, the RV Corban University Men's Wrestling team was unable to pull off the head-to-head upset over No. 18-ranked Eastern Oregon University earlier this afternoon, as they fell 32-16 at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in their penultimate home event of the 2023-24 season.
The No. 1-ranked wrestler in the NAIA for the 125-weight class wasted no time in establishing an early 6-0 lead for the No. 18-ranked Mountaineers, as EOU's Hunter Sparks earned a 1:09 pin over Corban's sophomore Brayden Boyd in a battle of two top 20 wrestlers.
After a forfeit win for Warriors' sophomore Blake Runion in the 133-weight class, sophomore Luke Jensen earned a hard-fought 11-9 decision over Eastern Oregon's Cole Cross to give the Navy and Gold their first team lead of the afternoon.
The Mountaineers jumped back in front with a technical fall in the 149-weight class when No. 14-ranked AJ Rockwell secured a 22-5 technical fall over Warriors' redshirt freshman Lance Stover, followed by a second round pin for EOU's Michael Fox over Corban's freshman Gus Menne.
With a technical fall in favor of the Mountaineers in the 165-weight class, Eastern Oregon found themselves with a 22-9 advantage and four weight classes remaining if they wanted to flip the result on the visiting team.
Warriors' junior Tyson Stover nearly clinched a technical fall in the 174-weight class over his EOU opponent Wylee Lindeen, pulling Corban within nine points on the scoreboard, 22-13, and needing some of the higher weight classes to fall in their favor to complete the comeback victory. However, Eastern Oregon was able to secure the road dual win over the shorthanded Warriors with a pin in the 184-weight class, eventually taking the CCC heavyweight matchup.

The Warriors are back on their home mats next Friday, February 2nd, when they host NCAA DIII Linfield University at 7pm for their Senior Night dual in the final home event of the 2023-24 season.
