PORTLAND, Ore. – Play officially concluded this afternoon for the Corban University Men's Golf reserve team at Glendoveer Golf Course, as the Tournament of Knights, hosted by Warner Pacific University, wrapped up earlier this afternoon with the Warriors earning a third-place finish among the four teams in action. The host Knights (600) took the top team finish and individual medalist honors, followed by Olympic College's A-team (648), the Navy and Gold (655), and Olympic B-squad (705).
"Today's weather and course play was much tamer and allowed our guys to play their game," explained Corban assistant coach Tim Banek. "Although they might think they didn't play as well, I thought they battled through adversity, and each made improvements as the day progressed. Brock was our low bag today with a 75 and played very well!"
Redshirt junior Brock Nelson (156) carded the second best round of the day in PDX, as he finished just two-over-par (75), which was just three strokes behind the eventual tourney medalist from WPU, Orlando Chiquiti. His four-birdie, seven-par round allowed him to finish in seventh among the 22-golfer event.
Following Nelson in the standings for the Warriors was a quartet of true freshmen, with Brendan Barbeau (161) right behind with a tenth-place finish. After all finishing within a stroke of each other on day one, Micah Curtis (169), Bo Purnell (170), and Lucas Savage (171) continued that trend with finishes in fourteenth, sixteenth, and eighteenth, respectively.
The Corban men's golf program will next be in action this upcoming weekend, as they'll host their annual Coastal Collegiate Classic at Salishan Golf Links just south of Gleneden Beach. Day one will begin on Saturday with the tournament wrapping up on Sunday afternoon.
