CLACKAMAS, Ore. – The (RV) Corban University men's wrestling team matched up against the defending junior college national champions in Clackamas Community College on Saturday evening in Clackamas, Ore. The Warriors fell to the Cougars by a 34-17 tally.
"The guys wrestled with heart and battled for every point", said head coach Keegan Davis. "Even our athletes that lost did so in a way that showed heart. We have a young team and I'm excited, even after a loss, because the only thing that stands between many of our freshmen and getting the win is minor issues with technique. Technique can be dramatically improved, while lack of heart is an entirely more difficult issue to tackle."
Three Warrior contenders ended up with triumphs in the dual with Clackamas. Cody Knott (157 pounds) won by way of the pin over Caiden Cohen at 4:47. Cooper McCullough (165 pounds) earned a victory by technical fall, trouncing Beau Bradley of the Cougars by a 22-4 final. Levi Perry (174 pounds) picked up yet another win by pinning his opponent Dax Bennett at the 4:35 mark.
The dual's lone decision was recorded at the 197-pound weight class, where Falemalama Van Weggen battled Kyle Richards the distance to an 8-2 defeat.
Corban (1-5) continues to face some of the toughest opponents in the pacific northwest, and will make their first trip to unknown territory when they trek to the Reno Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nev. on December 15.
