RV Warriors Earn Three Pins, Five Technical Falls in Dominant Home Opener Versus NCAA Pacific

SALEM, Ore. – The return of the RV Corban University Men's Wrestling team to the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center for the first time in the 2023-24 season since their intrasquad scrimmage back in late October was filled with a completely one-sided affair against NCAA DIII Pacific University, as the Warriors picked up an opening pin and never looked back in a whirlwind of an evening.

"Tonight was great way to kick off our home dual meet schedule," Warriors' head coach Nolan Harris shared. "Our guys have been working hard to find new ways to score and I feel like that was showcased tonight. They know the fans want to see scoring and we were able to deliver with over 100 match points."

Coach Harris carried on and pitched their next big home dual by stating, "Tomorrow, however, is a new day with a new challenge and many of our guys will get an opportunity to wrestle against ranked opponents, with one of the best teams the CCC has to offer coming to our gym. Once again, we look forward to competing well and putting a product on the mat that is worth the trip and price of admission."

Corban's first home dual of the season was fueled by a pair of weight class forfeits and one of the highest match point scoring total one can find at the collegiate level, as every other weight class was decided by at least a technical fall, with three more resulting in pins for the Navy and Gold.

Sophomore Brayden Boyd kicked off the dual with a first round takedown of his Boxer opponent Thomas Turner, pinning him in 2:26 for a quick six points on the board for the Warriors. Due to a 133-round forfeit by Corban, the Boxers would tie the dual back up at six points apiece, which would go on to be the only points scored all evening by Pacific.

Sophomore Luke Jensen didn't allow a single point against him in his 141-weight class win over Lucas Paschia, as he secured an 18-0 technical fall, which was the first of three-straight for the Warriors when excluding sophomore Bo Davis' 149 pound weight class forfeit win.

The dynamic brother duo of redshirt junior David Rubio and freshman Jesse Rubio continue to make the 157 and 165 weight classes their bread and butter, with each of them earning 22-4 and 17-2 technical falls, respectively.

Senior Matthew Bartlett needed just one minute and 18 seconds to pin his Boxer foe in Francisco Endi, which essentially clinched the dual for the Warriors as Pacific could only score up to 18 points for the remainder of the evening and trailed by 24 following Bartlett's showcase.

Another pair of technical falls, this time by junior Tyson Stover and freshman Isaiah Twait in the 184 and 197 weight classes, set senior Sven Lukner up for the final bout of the evening in the skirmish of the 285 pounders, where he pinned Jimmy Green in 1:34 to conclude the dominant home opener for Corban.

The Warriors are back in action on their home mats tomorrow afternoon in a must-see conference bout, as they'll host No. 19-ranked Southern Oregon University (1-0) at 4pm PT.
