REDDING, Calif. – The No. 13-ranked Corban University Men's Wrestling team kicked off the 2024-25 regular season in style with a 43-12 neutral site dual victory over Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) foe Westcliff University, as the Warriors secured four head-to-head weight classes in addition to four forfeits accepted, along with an exhibition bout that resulted in a technical fall for one of the Warriors' numerous nationally-ranked grapplers.
The Navy and Gold (1-0) accepted weight class forfeit wins in four of the ten dual matchups this evening, as junior Brayden Boyd, redshirt senior David Rubio, sophomore Gus Menne, and sophomore Isaiah Twait simply trotted onto the mats in the James M. Grant Center and had their arms raised during the 125, 157, 165, and 184-weight classes, respectively, for 24 free points.
Westcliff (0-1) secured the first actual head-to-head result of the day thanks to William Moore against Warriors' redshirt sophomore Braden Ruby via a first minute pin in the 133-weight class, the only matchup Westcliff would take all night long that wasn't via a forfeit. Junior Luke Jensen avenged Ruby at 141-pounds with a pin of his own at 4:46 versus Westcliff's Anthony Tamay.
In his first appearance as a Warrior, sophomore Jr Downing earned a major decision 15-6 over Santiago Pacheco to kickstart his Corban career with a victory, which was followed by a 10-4 decision for senior Tyson Stover at 174 over Thomas Venezia.
Graduate student Hunter James registered the fastest Navy and Gold pin of the day over his Westcliff counterpart Davin Ito, as he buckled him in 1:15 to nab the 197-weight class and close out the dual result with a 285 forfeit in favor of Westcliff. Finally, junior Bo Davis participated in an exhibition against Westcliff's Jesus Bracamonte, where he opened his third season with the Corban men's wrestling program with a dominant 15-0 technical fall in 3:35.

The Warriors will remain in Redding overnight and participate in the annual Simpson Duals throughout tomorrow morning and into the afternoon, where they will face Simpson University, Fresno City College, Sacramento City College, and Menlo College at 9am, 10:30am, 12pm, and 1:30pm, respectively.
