Seven Warriors Clinch National Tournament Bids, No. 14 Corban Men’s Wrestling Finishes Third at CCC Championships

REDDING, Calif. – The best regular season finish in Corban University Men's Wrestling team history has officially been upgraded to the best postseason performance thus far as well, as the No. 14-ranked Warriors exceeded expectations to surprise the rest of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) at the 2025 Championships by finishing third overall as a team after being slated behind two other programs to begin this weekend's competition. In addition to the seven NAIA National Qualifiers that will be represented by Warriors at the 2025 NAIA National Championships, two Corban student-athletes were crowned as weight class champions and individual conference champions, alongside six All-Conference honorees.

With eleven Warriors entering today's championship tourney finale either in the winner's or consolation brackets, seven of which were slated for semifinal bouts right off the bat, it was evident to everyone in Northern California that the Corban men's wrestling program was about to take an enormous step forward on the conference level. Having never placed higher than fifth overall as a team prior to this year's conference tournament, all eyes turned to the Navy and Gold as they found themselves in second place and just mere points out of first on multiple occasions throughout the morning and into the evening sessions.

Of the seven automatic qualifiers from Corban, only one of which wasn't named an All-Conference recipient, which is determined by the top three finishers in each weight class. Senior Tyson Stover of the 174-weight class originally placed in fifth, just outside of the automatic qualifying spots available, yet a "True Fourth" bout was scheduled between Stover and Devin Crawford of No. 13-ranked Montana State University-Northern to determine who would earn the final automatic bid. Stover gutted out an 8-7 decision to secure yet another bid for the Navy and Gold.

Earning third place finishes within their respective weight classes today was junior Bo Davis (141) and sophomore Jr Downing (149), who each battled back within the consolation brackets to win their final CCC Tournament matchups and clinch All-Conference recognition, and more importantly, a bid to the national championships.

Four Warriors found themselves in CCC Championship bouts to end the action in Redding on Saturday evening, with half of the Corban wrestlers emerging victorious and the other half setting up redemption arcs for the national tournament that will begin at the end of the first week of March. The Cinderella story run for junior Blake Runion, who was seeded as the No. 6-seed for 133lbs, came to an end in overtime within the weight class championship in a heartbreaking 11-8 decision against Arizona Christian University's Sean Archuleta, while redshirt senior David Rubio's quest for a fourth-consecutive CCC crown fell just short in the 157-weight class finals, as No. 9-ranked Southern Oregon University's Aaron Gandara avenged his loss to Rubio earlier this season with a narrow 4-2 decision in regulation periods.

At 184lbs, sophomore Isaiah Twait was able to notch the first of what many can assume will be an abundance of conference weight class titles in a magical run through one of the deepest divisions the CCC has to offer, defeating the top ranked and second-seeded wrestlers in the semifinals and finals, respectively, to clinch the first individual conference title for Corban on the day. First, he defeated Kyle Knudtson of No. 19-ranked Eastern Oregon University in a nail-biting 8-6 decision, followed by yet another overtime result that fell in favor of the Navy and Gold in the weight class final against Sawyer Hobbs of No. 6-ranked University of Providence.

Finally, redshirt junior Antonio Garcia continued his role as the rock that held down the Corban lineup all season long in the heavyweight bouts to end each dual and tourney the Warriors visited during the 2024-25 regular season, as he picked up an overtime tiebreaker against Nico Rodriguez of EOU for the Warriors' second weight class crown of the 2025 conference championships.
