Steed was a two-sport athlete at Western Baptist playing volleyball and basketball for head coaches Tracy Smith and Terry Williams during her four-year tenure as a Warrior. Steed is the only player in Western Baptist history to record 1,000-or-more kills and 1,000-or-more points in a career, while being one of only three players in women's basketball history to register more than 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 50 blocks in a career. In volleyball, Steed ranks in the Top 10 all-time in four statistical categories, while helping lead the Warriors to the 1997 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national title and earning Cascade Collegiate Conference scholar-athlete recognition as a junior in 1998. On the basketball court, Steed ranks in the Top 10 all-time in program history in nine statistical categories and was voted the team's Most Valuable Player twice. Steed was also named NCCAA National Player of the Year as a senior and the Warriors' Most Improved Player as a freshman.  Among the conference awards, Steed was a three-time All-CCC 1st team honoree in basketball and earned all-conference honorable mention recognition in volleyball as a junior in 1999.
